Volunteers and event planning have become my sole realm of focus. My mission…
To rally more volunteers in the Mid-Cheshire area to actively engage in the array of fantastic opportunities on their doorstep.
I have embarked a journey to organise an event for October which will round up the learning and training I have received through my placement on the Saltscape project. In conjunction with Chester Voluntary Action I am organising a showcase event for local organisations to bring along existing volunteers, staff members, promotional materials and lots of enthusiasm to host a stand letting the world know what is great about their projects and why people should get involved!
By providing a platform for people to find out about projects, groups and charities we hope to encourage more people in the Weaver Valley to get involved with their local community and discover all of the wonderful diversity that this area holds whilst giving something back to it.
It is no small task to make this event a successful one and it will be all hands on deck for the next few weeks to ensure that there will be an interesting variety of groups attending and very importantly a lot of eager-to-be volunteers!
Alongside the volunteer showcase I am also coordinating volunteer involvement for Northwich’s first Heritage Open Day – A celebration of the region’s historical and natural heritage through an assortment of free activities, tours, talks and performances. I have been on the search for volunteers to help the team at this exciting one day event and have so far enlisted the help of several enthusiastic folk who will be doing anything from running interpretation stop points to engage people about the area’s industrial or natural heritage, hosting show stands or even assisting with activities such as fishing and bush craft.
Putting my practical skills to use I spent a day away from volunteer centred affairs to begin creating a scavenger hunt for little explorers to enjoy with their parents on Heritage Open Day in the Northwich Community Woodlands. I meticulously carved out 14 wooden leaves using a jigsaw at Anderson Boat Yard, polishing them off with files and sandpaper, and I’m pleased to say that the half finished products are looking rather professional. Now it’s time for the illustrations and clues to be added…
I’m looking forward to these two major events that will happen later in the summer and can’t wait to see all of mine and the team’s hard work pay off!
If you are interesting in attending our volunteer showcase (either as a to-be volunteer or on behalf of a group looking for volunteers) contact me on or call 01606 723160 to talk to a member of the Saltscape team.
