Our learning events for local people revive traditional rural crafts that would have shaped the working landscape. Sessions include hedge laying and coppicing through to arts and crafts such as carving and whittling, basketry and canal boat painting. Volunteering with Saltscape also provides opportunities to train in wildlife identification, tracking, surveying, data recording and the control of invasive species to build a better knowledge and understanding of some of the key wildlife of the area. There are also opportunities to be involved in the conservation and restoration of mileposts and a building along the canal and river network.
Awards of up to £1000 are available to support voluntary and community groups working to conserve, restore and celebrate the unique salt landscape. Contact us for more information
There will also be an exciting programme of heritage festivals and performances to celebrate the unique character and local history of the Saltscape area. We will be collaborating with Cheshire Local Records Office to bring local history to life for local people. Watch this space for an exciting Archive Event at Winsford Salt Mine on November 14th 2015.
