Community Archaeology Project
This exciting project allowed volunteers to try their hand at archaeology. Uncovering the remnants of Cheshire’s industrial past, individuals were able to learn new skills in surveying and excavating trenches.
Working closely alongside Salford University’s Dr. Mike Nevell – head of archaeology, a series of 10 talks were delivered to members of the public. The talks covered themes such as quarries, mining and farming practises in industrial towns. This project gave people the opportunity to try something new and develop a real sense of ownership towards for the area.
Guided walks around the trenches were given and upon completion of this project an open day was held. This gave volunteers the opportunity to learn skills in exhibiting and we were able to showcase our finds to members of the public.
