The Saltscape team from Groundwork will be very busy celebrating the final months of the Landscape Partnership Scheme at Middlewich Folk and Boat this year.
As well as being joined by Typhoon and his time-travelling friend the Pedal Players, we will be offering visitors to the festival the chance to have a go at stone carving with local artist and sculptor, Andrew Worthington.
Andrew has carved salt-related images into two sides of the monument during the last two festivals and members of the public have been able to have a go at helping to chip away some of the sandstone to help prepare the surface for carving. This activity has proved extremely popular with adults and children alike!
The stone originally arrived on site during the first year of the Landscape Partnership Scheme with a few nailbiting moments and the odd sleepless night! But we hope it has now become a much-loved monument to the salt history of the town, its waterways and communities.
