As you’ll see from our previous posts volunteers have been busy in the area of the Maidenhills at the Three Locks in Middlewich town centre .  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Volunteers from Saltscape, Middlewich Heritage Trust and Canal and Rivers Trust have cleared scrub, brash and bramble to create healthy spaces for wildlife including bird boxes and log piles for nesting insects and animals.

Work will soon be underway to restore the Grade II listed wall containing clinker (stony residue from burnt coal from the nearby saltworks).

Now we’d like to hear from local people about interpretation for the area : should we install a noticeboard, seating, artwork?  How can we make the most of this area for local people and visitors alike?  

With this in mind we’ll be holding a workshop at Middlewich Library on the morning of Saturday 20th May.  Ironwork artist Stephen Charnock will be on hand to discuss his current commissions and explore peoples’ ideas, memories and images of the area.  Stephen previously  worked with local schools to create this ‘Welcome to Middlewich’ sign.  Children will have chance to draw a picture of the area, or they may like to bring a picture along on the day.   Drop in and see us any time between 9.30 and 1pm.
