Ever wandered what it might be like volunteering on the Saltscape?  

Here Ray Woodward, from Vale Royal Conservation Volunteers, gives us a quick insight into a day in the life of a volunteer after a day volunteering with Saltscape Partners Canal and River Trust on the towpath near Anderton Marina earlier this year :

“We were very lucky with the weather again and had a very enjoyable day spent working with Naomi of CRT at Anderton Marina.   Naomi and the beefy lads excelled at shipping 5 bags of grit onto the towpath, whilst Sarah and I disputed the role of Chief Raker (unresolved).  Such was the work rate this phase of the work was finished by lunch taken at 12.45.  After lunch good work was done collecting up bags of rubbish and depositing them in the bins which were then neatly put away inside the Bin Store.

Afterwards we creosoted the outside of the Store, which was started last time (John we discovered was a dab-hand at this task) and would have completed had not our supply of creosote run dry.  All over by 3 pm and time enough for Norman, John and I to enjoy a walk along the towpath to observe the goings-on at the Lift.

A perfect task then, and I believe Naomi has several miles of towpath set aside for us in the future? We have a lot to look forward to!”
